 Question+   Short Answer
Where is the best place for the temperature sensor?  A good location for the sensor is at one side of the battery.
What is a "battery system monitor"?  The monitors generally keep track of the total amp-hours into and out of the batteries, the battery state of charge, and other information.
What is a load, or "low voltage disconnect" output?

Certain charge controllers utilize a "LOAD", or LVD output for small load, such as small appliances and lights.  The terminals have a low voltage disconnect.

What is pulse width modulation (PWM)?  PWM is a method of float charging that sends out a series of short charging pulses to the battery - a very rapid "on-off" switch.
What are some charge controller types?  Charge controls come in all shapes, sizes, features, and price ranges. They range from the small 4.5 amp (Sunguard) control, up to the 60 amp Trace. Often, if currents over 40 amps are required, two or more 20 to 40 amp units are wired in parallel. The most common controls used for all systems are in the 6 to 40 amp range.
Why 12 Volt Panels are 17 Volts?  To ensure output during daily sun variation.
What does a charge controller do?

Prevents overcharging of your batteries.

What components do I need for an off-grid solar system? - Monday 10 October, 2005 Viewed: 20043
There are many components that make up a complete solar electric power system, but the 4 main items are: solar modules, charge controller(s), batteries and inverter(s). The solar modules are physically mounted on a mount structure and the DC power they produce is wired through a charge controller before it goes on to the battery bank where it is stored.

What components do I need for a grid-tie system? - Monday 10 October, 2005 Viewed: 22888
Grid-tie systems are inherently simpler than either grid-tie with battery back-up or stand-alone solar systems. In fact, other than safety disconnects, mounting structures and wiring a grid-tie system is just solar modules and a grid-tie inverter!
